- Description -
The structure of the ommatidium (visual sense receptor) of the insect compound eye is illustrated. Differences in visual reception are compared for insect species that are active during the day versus species that are active at night. Finally, the animation demonstrates how insects perceive the world through compound eyes comprised of multiple visual receptor units (mosaic vision).
